Although he is putting everything he has at risk, he is eager to head to the poker tables in Vegas for another big score. Finally forced to acknowledge his pending financial ruin, he enters into a murder scheme with his dental assistant, Sylvia Bennett. Matthew is to murder the assistant's abusive husband Ron and make it look like an accident. The payoff from Ron's life insurance is one million dollars for each of them, enough to solve Dr. Brooks' financial problems. The pair trade written confessions to ensure the other's silence should either be suspected of contributing to Ron's death. But, is Matthew capable of murdering another human being--for money? As he struggles with this self-reflection, he meets a comely blonde, Carolyn Hodges, in Vegas. He has never met anyone like her. The two form an easy friendship which extends beyond the weekend in Vegas. Matthew struggles with the reality of the man he is and the man he wants to be for Carolyn. He fears her rejection if she discovers the murder-for-hire scheme. The two spend time together at Carolyn's farm and Matt discovers peace and acceptance for the first time in his life. In a bizarre twist, however, Sylvia gives away the desk containing Matthew's confession. The desk goes to auction and Matt races against time to find the desk and the confession hidden away in a concealed compartment.
